If you have a cat never, ever let it roam outside!

Cats are an example of an introduction of an invasive species wreaking havoc on an ecosystem. 

Here are the annual stats from Nature Canada

  1. Feral cats – 116 million 

  2. Domestic cats – 80 million 

  3. Power Lines – 25.6 million

  4. Houses – 22.4 million

  5. Vehicles – 13.8 million

  6. Hunting – 4.7 million 

  7. Agricultural Pesticides – 2.7 million

  8. Low, mid rise, tall buildings – 2.5  million  

Cats are responsible for killing an astounding 196 million birds each and every single year – more  than power lines, houses, vehicles, hunting. and buildings combined!!

Domestic cats kill over 200, 000 birds  every single day a little over 8,000  birds every single hour of the day!!

 DON'T  TREAT MOTHER EARTH LIKE A GIGANTIC GARBAGE BIN On Sunday, October 15, the Barrie Garden Club ventured out on a dark, dreary, and drizzly day to pick up litter, along Highway 26 close to Wilson Avenue. As I was picking up all kinds of litter such as license plates, chairs, discarded clothing, plastic bags, lots  of cigarette butts, and a myriad of discarded coffee containers, I began to reflect on all the problems triggered by litter. Here in Canada, we are very lucky to have an organized system where most municipalities and cities  make sure that there are regular pick-ups for your garbage, compost, and recyclables. So it boggles my mind why so many Canadians do not use the readily provided containers, but instead  treat Mother Earth like a gigantic garbage bin. I simply cannot understand when someone buys a cup of coffee, they then go for a long hike, they  manage to carry the cup full of coffee, but the minute it’s empty, they simply cannot manage...
