For first time in history we are all facing a global crisis triggered by climate change. There is no bigger emergency! In the last few years we have all observed or experienced the devastating effects of climate change such as killer floods, drought-producing famine, rising sea levels, the acidification of our oceans, and polar caps melting at alarming rates.
350.org is a global grassroots movement to solve the climate crisis
According to scientists, we must reduce the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere from its current level of 392 parts per million to below 350 ppm
350 ppm is the safe limit of CO2 that should be in the atmosphere
350.org strives to lower the parts per million of CO2 to below 350 ppm
Over 350 ppm of CO2 have devastating effects on the human population, for example:
Glaciers are melting and disappearing fast, these glaciers are a source of drinking water for hundreds of millions of people
Mosquitoes are attracted to a warmer climate and since our world is increasingly becoming warmer they move in to these places. Mosquitoes bring malaria and dengue fever
Drought is more common which is making food production harder in many places
Sea levels are rising (also an effect of glaciers) and if they rise too much, many cities and islands will be underwater
The CO2 in the atmosphere are causing the oceans to become more acidic, making it difficult for sea animals (corals and clams) to maintain their shells and skeletons
Coral reefs could start dissolving because of the acidic ocean
Increased intensity of extreme weather, such as hurricanes and blizzards are causing degradation
350.org runs many campaigns such as fighting the Keystone XL project, creating Earth Art, Letters to the President, the Fossil Free Campaign, Climate leadership workshops, Ending Fossil Fuel subsidies, etc.
It is a simple concept that can change our climate for the better and allow for humanity to have a cleaner Earth
