Safe Home Remedies for Cleaning

Buy borax, lemon juice, vinegar, baking soda and “green” dishwashing liquid


All-Purpose Cleaner

2- 3 cups water

1-cup vinegar

½ cup lemon juice Few drops of a “green’” dishwashing liquid


Microwave Cleaner- Heat a bowl of water and lemon slices in microwave for 1 minute, wipe

Fridge- Half a lemon stored in your fridge will help eliminate unpleasant smells

Chrome/copper/brass- Rub a lemon juice and baking soda paste and wipe

Toilet Cleaner-- Mix 1/2-cup borax and 1 cup lemon juice

Lime Scale in Sink and Faucets- Dip half a lemon in baking soda and rub well

Laundry -1 teaspoon of lemon juice in wash will make clothes smell fresher

Dishes- 1 teaspoon of lemon juice in dishwashing detergent will boost its grease cutting power

Chopping Boards- Rub lemon juice on wooden chopping board, leave overnight, rinse

Glass and Mirrors- 4 tablespoons lemon juice mixed with half a gallon of water makes an effective window cleaner

Degreaser - Straight lemon juice can be used as a general degreaser

Furniture Polish-2 parts olive oil or cooking oil mixed with 1 part lemon juice

Coffee Maker Cleaner--Run a solution of vinegar and water through your coffee maker

Steam Iron Cleaner- Equal parts water and vinegar, after steaming for a few minutes, allow iron to stand for an hour. Empty and rinse well with clear water. Remove burned-on spots from the sole of the iron, with a paste made of salt and heated vinegar







































Grungy Windows- Use vinegar and water, make as strong as needed

Old Decals- Soak with vinegar and scrape gently

Rinse Cycle- Add a cup of vinegar to soften clothes

Sticky, Greasy Hands - Wash with a drop of vinegar

Dishwasher-To cut down on water spots in the dishwasher add 1 tablespoon of Borax to detergent cup

Pots and Pans-Mix some Borax with water to clean your aluminum pots and pans

Carpet Stains-Mix Borax into a paste and rub into carpet stain, let dry and vacuum

Fresh Carpet- Spray with a fine mist of water and sprinkle on Borax. Vacuum when dry


Clogged Sink-To unclog sink, mix a cup of Borax with some boiling water
