IN PRAISE OF TREES ( 2)

 IN PRAISE OF TREES (2)

Not only do the trees in our protected green spaces stand guard as protective sentinels against the onslaught of devastating climate- triggered weather phenomena, but they also provide us with incredible health benefits.

Trees planted in urban neighbourhoods absorbs all kinds of nasty, smog –producing pollutants spewing from the tail pipes of city vehicles, like carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, nitrous oxides, and particulates that are responsible for triggering diseases like asthma, cancer, and heart disease.

The smaller the particles of soot, the deeper they can penetrate into the respiratory system and the more hazardous to a person’s health and well being.

Recent research shows that maples, aspens, and poplar trees trap far more pollutants than previously thought.  (National Center of Atmospheric Research, Boulder, Colorado.)

The trees that are champions at improving air quality are ash, maples, elder, larch, Scots pine, and silver birches.
Silver birches are especially efficient in collecting dust, particulates, and other air pollution due to the ridges and numerous hairs on their leaves. So the more silver birches that are planted in your neighbourhood and on your private property the healthier you will be- also less dusting of patio furniture!!😄

I do not believe that we have to remind our government leaders  that  in order to create a robust and thriving  economy, we need healthy, strong workers living in healthy environments with fresh air and clean water-environments  denude of mature trees create more contaminants and dangerous particulates. 🌄⛅🌳🌱
